Burger King Corporation is committed to the humane treatment of the food animals used for its products. Implementing its new practices and audits is the right thing to do, and the Company is committed to raising animal handling standards across the country. Burger King Corporation is taking an industry leadership role and is working with the National Council of Chain Restaurants (NCCR) and Food Marketing Institute (FMI) Animal Welfare Steering Committee on establishing joint industry guidelines and auditing programs. The Committee's goals are to obtain animal welfare guidelines that have objective, measurable indices for desirable practices in the growing, handling and processing of animals in food production; to foster uniformity for determining standards; to base guidelines for animal welfare on sound science; and to develop the measurable audit processes necessary to monitor best practices.
