Techworld.com - Anti-spam service hacked by spammers

Normally, I post tech stuff on URLyGrl.com, but this time it is affecting 2 email addresses at UnityPond.net. The spammers have apparently hacked the anti-spam place, sent me yes about 26 messages warning me to remove myself from the anti-spam service. However, even if I decide to comply, the anti-spam service was brought to it's knees and I am unable to access the site!

If you receive any wacky spam messages from kate@UnityPond.net, please my humble and sincere apology!

Kate

Techworld.com - Anti-spam service hacked by spammers: "Blue Security launched its “do-not-intrude registry” last July, which critics said amounted to vigilantism because it traced and sent opt-out email to the senders of unwanted email.

Now the spammers have struck back by emailing threats to a portion of Blue Security’s 450,000 members, demanding they stop using the service.

Normally, the list the spammers are told to steer clear of for fear of being deluged with returns is encrypted – the spammers use an identical algorithm to determine a permitted list of names. The implication is that this has somehow been reverse engineered, allowing them access to some of the user list."

The Improved Hubble Telescope

Per Modern Marvels show on the History Channel, the improved hubble telescope can now see 10.5 billion light years into the past, a distance that approaches the edges of the big-bang at the beginning of the universe.

Gail, Pete and I checked how long that is (and in the past??). Apparently 6 million miles x 10.5 billion will give the distance.

Science & Technology at Scientific American.com: Finches Provide Answer to Another Evolutionary Riddle: "On the other hand, in a relatively stable population, if all females mated with the flashiest guy, the charm of finches would become inbred. Instead, female finches should seek out males with the most genetic difference from themselves. But this would lead to a variety of hues for male finch breasts. 'Even though preference for genetically complementary mates is widely documented, it has always puzzled people that individual differences in mate preference do not prevent the evolution of elaborate ornaments,' ecologist Alexander Badyaev notes."

Dave Cool (and yes, he claims that is his real name!) is on MySpace.com promoting his Indie Film, "What is Indie?"What is INDIE? A Documentary Film Exploring What it Means to be an Independent Musician - About the Film: "Dave Cool- Director

Drummer, producer, label owner, filmmaker? Not exactly how Dave Cool thought things would play out in his life (and yes, that’s his real name!). After a serious ear condition cut his music career short, he turned his attention to running his own record label, Stand Alone Records, a label that actually encourages artists not to sign record deals.

TAXI FAQs: A&R Interview: Sarah McLachlan - Finds Her Own Walden Pond

Born in Halifax, NovaScotia, Sara McLaughlan had a "Walden Pond" experience to find herself. but of course! That's why we go to camp every year!

Love,
Kate

TAXI FAQs: A&R Interview: Sarah McLachlan - Finds Her Own Walden Pond: "by Bill DeMain

Thoreau once said that every writer's duty was to give 'first and last, a simple and sincere account of their own life.' More than his sage words reached 26-year old singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan. In preparing the songs for her latest release, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy (Arista), the Canadian songstress, perhaps inspired by Thoreau's Walden experience, retreated to an isolated cabin in the mountains for nearly seven months of meditation and soul-searching. 'It was just an amazing time for me,' she relates."

MTA - FAST LANE Program

Fast Lane services all EZ Pass locations, so be it New England, NY or whereever, you can reduce time at tolls during tourist months.

MTA - FAST LANE Program: "Payment Options
An initial fee of $27.50 is required for each interior transponder and several toll payment options are available. The most popular pre-payment option is to assign a FAST LANE account to a credit card which is then charged $20 to open the account. Tolls are automatically deducted from that $20. When the account falls below a balance of $10, the credit card is automatically charged to bring the account balance back to $20. Another payment option is to have tolls automatically deducted from a checking account which can be done with any bank. "

THE MONK PARAKEET

"Natives of Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, and central Bolivia, they have been imported into the United States as pets. It is generally believed that in the late 1960's, a container of parakeets was dropped and broke open at Kennedy Airport in New York. Several birds escaped and established wild populations in Long Island. Since then the birds have spread into Connecticut with populations reported from Branford to Norwalk. The original birds have probably been joined by escaped pets."
