I love this photo. While I never fully emptied and planted up the window boxes, I found that some bright red geraniums against the white house and blue shutters looked very smart and patriotic!

As the plants grow, I sit listening to the US Grand Prix final Formula 1 race of the year. As I learn how to blog, I wonder to myself where the place to set up "my funny motto" is. Didn't see it under preferences, though I found other good stuff such as archives!
Cat Mint vs Cat Nip. Cat Mint always shows a picture of a cat on the front cover, but frankly I believe this to be a separate species from the type cats like. I have grown catnips with 1"-3" jagged leaves, and the cats love, adore, attack,a nd sleep in this stuff. Then I have grown the cat mint type...also jagged leaves, but darker, bluer green, and much smaller leaves. The cats sniff it, find it pleasant, and keep walking.
Nonetheless, I brought some home from Maine and hung it to dry. At the very least I can make a tea with it for myself if my cat doesnt care. :-)

Supposedly we had a frost in Maine last night... It sure was cold alright, but the plants seemed unscathed. When I returend to central CT the temperature in the house was certainly nippy. The plants outside - geraniums, snapdragons, etc looked crisp. Jessie was happy to see me and go outside, having been cooped up all weekend.
I harvested my herbs from the camp at Unity Pond this morning as I closed up camp for the winter. It's barely fall, so the herbs are growing nicely, but I picked off the tops to hang a few bunchs at home. I'm hoping that the reduction of greenery will aid the root system too. Cheers!
