Thanksgiving Weekend. I am thankful for the extra days off work. It's not that I don't want to work, there is plenty of fun to be had. I am just happy not to have to drive to the office. Came down with a cold. A month early this year.
Yesterday morning was a bit drizzly in Connecticut. We had an amzing number of birds flock to the back yard - cardinals, sparrows, house finches, woodpeckers, juncos and many mourning doves. But really caught my attention was the large black and white speckled bird that landed on the back deck. Not a woodpecker mind you, its head was light brown with a red spot. I knew in an instant what it was. As it flew from the deck up to the garage roof top, I saw it's white rump and new from years of driving down the camp road with Dad, my local birder, that it was a flicker!
A big smile came to my face and a tear to the corner of my eye. I felt relief, happiness, and forgiveness! I had let the flicker at camp die inside our home, trapped, but as is the norm with nature, I was forgiven and had the gift of a flicker come to CT and visit! Wow.

My soul garden I carry with me in my heart whereever I go.
The garden is a place where I toil and nurture and invite the innocent. Beauty arises, like the phoenix out of ashes or dirt, brown becomes green, and green gives birth to many bright colors and shapes!
My Earth Gardens take 3 years to develop, but first season bring squirrels, birds, and cats to visit.
My Travelling Garden, the one I carry in my heart, has been building for at least my life time! So like the family homestead up in Maine, I treasure my Travelling Garden. All the memories of community place, and history behind me, it stays with me, lighting my path and singing to my heart! I carry memories of echinacea and tall white phlox from Southwick, MA. With it I am reminded of all the good times I've shared with freinds and loved ones. While I have been a wanderer, and explorer, searching for the meaning of my life, and looking to ever move forward in maturing my soul, I do not neglect my past. It comes with me. The old clothes, furniture, and lost plants may have been left behind, but the treasured memories come with me, always there when I want to see them, in my travelling garden!
