I am impressed this rose is doing great! I had it in a pot for several months, but finally planted it in October and it looks like it's gunna make it! Very impressed. Of note that old 3 dollar rose at the camp is also thriving. I mulched it with leaves when I closed up shop, htough it wasn't close to being a foot of mulch, so we shall see if it is truly hardy enough to winter over in Maine. In the meantime, enjoy these Central Connecticut winter afternoon shots or the early morning shots below. cheers!

Now, ‘Integrative Care’She loves sharing her knowledge of herbs and acupuncture with patients. And though she worried at first that conventionally trained physicians would shun her, she has found they’re as eager as she is to break down old boundaries. She sends her patients to M.D.s when she can’t help them—and M.D.s send just as many to her

Hey, when did Grammy plant the rose at camp? The camp was built in 1978 and that was over 25 years ago, the life span for some roses.....How long does a rose plant live for? - Roses Many of the older type roses on their own roots can outlive a human being. Grafted roses can live a long time if they can make new canes from the base. That is why pruning a rose to stimulate new growth is important. An average rose in the garden should live for at least 25 years or longer.
Whoops I thought my 1/8" of grass clippings would be enough. Guess that's like a tee shirt to a rose, not a winter coat!!
How do I protect my roses during the winter? - Roses Rose bushes die or die back over the winter from cold drying winds, changes in freezing and thawing and from cold temperatures to the bud union. To protect the bud union mound up soil or a mulch to about one foot high after the first hard frost. Do not cut canes in the fall or give nitrogen fertilizers as both stimulate soft new growth which will be killed. Long canes on bushes or climbers can be tied to prevent wind rock.

DrWeil.com Home Page" Beautiful music can make you feel good and create an emotional climate for deep relaxation. In fact, music can be a powerful healing modality. Classical music scores that approximate the rhythm of the resting heart (70 beats per minute) can actually slow a rapid heart rate.."

another form of "beautiful music" is the singing of birds on a crisp morning and the sight of a drop of dew falling from a bleeding heart!

Wow, I thought I saw Dorothy and Toto blow by the living room window this morning!!!

FALL technically started today :-) while it's been autumn for 3-4 weeks, TODAY the wind blew and the leaves FELL. Well, tumbled like circus stars really!! I have no fear that Jessie-dear will be entertained for hours. The weeping cherry's long narrow leaves of various yellow-greenish hues went whipping in circles in front of the bay window. I think I saw Jessie's head follow in a shape not unlike Jeffrey's path in the Family Circus comic strip!

The long London Fog hits the spot. The lining is back in it and the wind had it tugging at my pant legs. The air is not frigid however. I did not feel like I did that March in NYC. BRRRRRRR... Nope, not like that yet!!!

Have a beautiful fall day. I will be in Maine soon, back at camp to see what wonders do appear and fold up the bedclothes for winter.
