winter storms, presuming preparedness, can be so medatative! soothing, relaxing.

Awareness: as you soften your gaze in the hypnotic snow falling, turn your attention to the sounds around you. note any sounds you might hear. thenturn attention on your body for a moment and note any areas of tightness. Breath in, hold for a moment, breath out, and watch how collected you feel!

Balance: Stand both feet on the floor at shoulders-width. feel your center of balance, and imagine lowering your center down to your knees and feet. Lift one foot slightly, holding it at your ankle of the foot on the floor. When able raise it slowly to your calf. Wait til our body shakes then return the foot to the floor. Repeat on the other side. Do this several times.

want to be more flexible? stronger legs? better balance? inner peace?

I'm watching a program on yoga for adults over 60. The instructor herself, (Peggy Cappy, more at wgby.org) talks about the elements of yoga. interviews with class members (a 71 year old man, an 82 year old woman) speak on their concerns with age, and their discoveries with yoga. the average age of her class is 78 and her oldest student is in her late 90s!

seated warm up strethes
3 20 minute segments
1 sitting
2 standing for balance and leg strength
3 relaxation

sheoffers that her students do one a day, or the whole segment twice, or do all in a day
