This is just in from Happiness, Vermont:
Note that simply being born in Vermont does not make you a Native: "Just 'cause the cat has her kittens in the oven don't make 'em biscuits!". Depending on who you're talking to, one must be second or third generation born on this soil (some purists would go for being able to trace your ancestors back to the original Green Mountain Boys). A Transplant, on the other hand, is a non-Native who decided to stay long enough ago that roots are firmly established (a Transplant's grandchildren will be called Native, if everyone follows the rules). Anybody "just visiting", no matter how often you do it, is a FLATLANDER.
