Bachelor of Science in Business/e-Business: "e-business permeates all functional areas of the organization and must be considered in all aspects of managerial decision-making and problem solving. This course is the first of a two-part sequence that addresses the critical e-business considerations and emerging trends that general managers face in today's e-business-centric organizational environment. Students will be prepared with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively integrate e-business tools, models, and best practices within various types of organizations."

Your Training for Credit

Your Training for Credit: "Specific requirements for course evaluation.
When evaluating a corporate training course for credit award, University of Phoenix Online faculty evaluators look for academic content and equivalency to a regionally accredited university course. Vocational or remedial coursework such as word processing, shorthand, driver training, pre-college course work, and maintenance and repair courses do not qualify for credit.
Prior to our evaluation, we will request the following information:
A current course catalog, training catalog and course syllabi or course descriptions.
A copy of verification documents sample training record or sample certificates.
The name, title, phone number, and address of the contact person at the institution, and the name and title of the person who will sign the articulation agreement. "

Getting your degree: Your Training for Credit

Your Training for Credit: "Since its founding, University of Phoenix has valued the learning that adults gain outside the traditional classroom. One way we acknowledge this is by offering college credit for certain kinds of corporate training. Each year, the University of Phoenix Prior Learning Assessment Center evaluates the training programs of corporations for college-level credit worthiness.
The process is called articulation, and it requires documentation and a mutually signed agreement between you and University of Phoenix Online. The participating institution submits a complete course syllabus for each training class to be evaluated. Our academic deans and faculty members review and evaluate the information. Courses earn credit only if they meet the academic standards of post-secondary education, and if the University is satisfied that the participating institution has a monitoring system to assure consistency. Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 - Public Company Accounting Reform and Investor Protection Act

On the imposition of frequent SOX testing

You will find some opinions stated by proposal commentors that closely match those by real workers. Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 - Public Company Accounting Reform and Investor Protection Act: "3. Final Rules
After consideration of the comments received, we have decided not to require quarterly evaluations of internal control over financial reporting that are as extensive as the annual evaluation. We recognize that some controls operate continuously while others operate only at certain times, such as the end of the fiscal year. We believe that each company should be afforded the flexibility to design its system of internal control over financial reporting to fit its particular circumstances. The management of each company should perform evaluations of the design and operation of the company's entire system of internal control over financial reporting over a period of time that is adequate for it to determine whether, as of the end of the company's fiscal year, the design and operation of the company's internal control over financial reporting are effective. Compare Web Hosts Article

Recently several people (Hi Leah! Hi Peg!) have asked me about hosting. It's a different topic than some on the web. Ask any web designer or programmer what they think of major names in the industry and there are plenty of opinions and perhaps even a general consensus.

But what about web hosting?

As my aunt, who runs an ultra-successful personal web site will tell you, bandwidth and data transfer DOES matter. But she gets visitors from Argentina, Britain, and China. Where are your visitors coming from? Are there competing web sites they might visit instead? My aunt is one of a kind, so they ALL come to her. She requires therefore a dedicated server with maxiumum space and speed and processing capabilities. (You would have to ask her or her wonderful hubby to get the latest details).

In my experience, corporations and visitors alike don't usually draw quite so many hits as she does (You Go, Auntie M! I;m SO proud of you!!!)

Anyway, the point is you need a host. I would love to do it for you. In fact maybe I will add this task to my growing to-do list. But for now I have begun the research process for you. I did a search at Alta-Vista on 'Web Hosts Reseller' and came up with a number of websites that have ALSO done homework for you! These sites list hosts and allow searches by your particular needs.

Speaking of your needs, let's have a few discussions. We can refine your needs, but it may take a few conversations.

Check out one sites opinion:

Determining Your Requirements

"Usually when a host talks about bandwidth, they are referring to your transfer. So you need to figure out what is sufficient for your site to function. You’ll need to gather some information; fairly easy if you already have a site. Most of this information is available from your traffic history. If you don’t have an existing site, provide an optimistic estimate if you intend to heavily promote the site. Then get ready for some math."

Find out the daily averages of:

* Number of visitors / expected number of visitors
* Page size including the graphics of the page
* Page views / expected pages viewed by each visitor

"Then, multiply them as follows: Visitors x Page size x Page views x 30 days = Monthly Website Transfer. You should also throw in a small margin or error there to take into account email traffic and your own uploads to the server. If you offer downloads, then you should add the following: Average/Expected downloads x File Size x 30 days = Monthly Download Transfer"

XML.com: XML on the Web Has Failed

So THAT's what UTF-8 encoding is for!

For years we didn't even bother using any encoding - our code wasn't valid, but we didn't know and didn't care. Well, want to broaden or explicitly name your audience? Read on...XML.com: XML on the Web Has Failed: "But Russian publishers can use an encoding such as KOI8-R, and they can store their Cyrillic characters each in one byte. Publishers that don't know what language they'll be dealing with can use 'universal' encodings like UTF-8 or UTF-16. Second, consumers can use off-the-shelf parsing libraries that can assume well-formed XML as input."

XML.com: XML on the Web Has Failed ?????

Whoa, This needs reading. Let me know what you think!!! kate@urlygrl.com

freshmeat.net: Editorials - Is Free Software for Windows Good?

freshmeat.net: Editorials - Is Free Software for Windows Good?: "The Free Software Foundation, headed by Richard Stallman, supports the idea that software should be free, which entails the following:

* The freedom to run the program, for any purpose (freedom 0).
* The freedom to study how the program works, and adapt it to your needs (freedom 1).
* The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor (freedom 2).
* The freedom to improve the program, and release your improvements to the public, so that the whole community benefits. (freedom 3).

These four freedoms define the core of the GNU GPL (General Public License), under which a good part of software for Linux is licensed today. They are also in extreme contradiction with"

Why do you need PGP?

Why do you need PGP?: "If privacy is outlawed, only outlaws will have privacy. Intelligence agencies have access to good cryptographic technology. So do the big arms and drug traffickers. So do defense contractors, oil companies, and other corporate giants. But ordinary people and grassroots political organizations mostly have not had access to affordable military grade public-key cryptographic technology. Until now.
PGP empowers people to take their privacy into their own hands. There's a growing social need for it."
